Before I started to study Christian Science I was afflicted each...
Before I started to study Christian Science I was afflicted each winter, without fail, with what the doctor diagnosed as a septic throat. I was ordered into isolation with a vial of medicinal tablets because the condition was considered contagious. The condition returned each winter, sometimes more than once. After I began the study of Christian Science, however, I was not troubled with the condition again, not once. This healing has been permanent —the trouble has not recurred for over twenty years.
Some time ago I became lame in one leg; as I stepped forward my knee would collapse. This was upsetting, and I began to pray about the situation. As I came to understand better that God is the only animus, I saw that nothing could interfere with harmonious, painless motion. Gradually the pain eased, and one day I realized that I'd climbed up some steps without a tinge of pain. That was the end of the trouble.
More recently one of my ears became infected, which not only had the effect of dulling my hearing but was also painful. I reasoned that God could not possibly have such a condition or create it, for God had made all good. Thus, neither I or anyone else, as truly God's perfect image and likeness, could suffer from such a condition. I saw that hearing is actually related to spiritual discernment, the acknowledgment of God's ever-presence. As I continued to pray this way, the difficulty vanished. I have also been healed quickly of the habits of smoking and drinking.
