"Whirlpools of silence"
"Last Winter the BBC broadcast a documentary on Radio 4 about the upsurge in 'spirituality'—with more and more people going on retreat, with courses on prayer over-subscribed, with on spirituality being best-sellers.
"David Winter is the BBC's Head of Religious Broadcasting. He says: 'As the media looks out at a world apparently tearing itself apart, more and more people appear to be looking in, seeking to harmonise their own personalities and experience of life with the will and purpose of God. In the noisiest society the world has ever know, people are creating whirlpools of silence.
"The reaction to the radio programme itself underlined this interest, with almost a thousand requests for more information in the first few days."This gives the lie to two popular myths,' suggests David Winter. 'The first is that people today have outgrown religion. The second is that modern religion is all about sociology and politics. It isn't of course. More and more it is, quite simply, about God.'"
