In the year 1900, when I was a few years old, my grandfather was healed of cancer through Christian Science. Prior to that time my mother had suffered from internal injuries as a result of the birth of a child. This condition had lasted for several years, and finally her physician had told her she would never be well without an operation, and he was doubtful whether even that would help. My grandfather asked her if she would read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. She consented, and during the reading she was healed. From that time on we became students of Christian Science.
Quite a few years later, after my marriage, I had an experience that really proved to me that Christian Science does heal. My husband's parents rented a vacation home in Wisconsin, and members of the family visited from time to time. While we were there it was decided we would go fishing, since we had access to the owner's cabin cruiser. There were nine members of the family and several guests on board besides the captain and first mate.
At one point, because we were not catching any fish, we decided to move to another location. When the motor was turned on, there was an explosion. The roof was blown off; three people, including my husband, were thrown into the water, but they managed to hang on to the roof. I was not aware of it, but my leg was severely burned from the knee to the ankle. My hands were also burned, and I sustained facial injuries from the flying debris. However, I was able to help my mother-in-law free herself, as her dress had become caught on something and she couldn't move.
