Unfailing impetus
John 5:2-14
Convinced that I was
struggling in vain to
break concrete-hard habits,
dull resistance,
disastrous upbringing,
just then ...
I remembered you.
Thirty-eight years,
waiting by that passive pool
surrounded by impotent aims,
withered ambitions ...
Did you yearn, as I,
for some soaring aspiration,
some noble purpose,
to stir your heart to its very depths?
What dynamic force, what
earth-shattering propulsion
leveled that rock-bound belief of
mind in matter?
Christ,
robed in meek directness,
lifted you above the
crumbling rubble of complacency.
Rise.
(Realize the unutterable stillness
wherein omnipresent Life rouses,
strengthens the heart.)
Take up thy bed.
(Affirm the momentum whereby
divine Love displaces
ease and idleness.)
Walk.
(Accept the profound,
imperative demands of Truth.)
I have faced other walls since then,
felt the tug of idleness,
lure of contentment,
crippling grip of self-doubt.
Such walls still crumble
before the unfailing impetus of Science.
