Don't give up—the solution is on your doorstep

In the midst of a suicide attempt, a young woman is saved through Christ.

In the pouring rain I once found a small, hard peony bud lying in the gutter next to the curb. I took it home, convinced that it would bloom if only someone were to give it loving care. After a few days, some of my peony's pink petals opened very slowly—until finally it stood there in royal splendor, a reminder of tender beauty, perfection, and uniqueness. Its undiminishing fragrance delighted everyone who came near it.

Do we sometimes feel like a bud thrown away in the rain—not needed or loved by anyone? Desperate as circumstances may seem at times, there is a way out, a solution already on our doorstep! Even if we don't know any person who can bring us help, who understands us, we don't need to give up. Our helper is the Christ—the divine power that far surpasses anything human. We need only look in this direction to begin to resolve our problems. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, speaks of Christ in this way in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual—yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death." Science and Health, p.332.
