About a year ago I hurt my back while moving things around the house. I felt pain every time I moved. Unfortunately, at first I just tried to ignore it rather than pray about it. The difficulty continued for several days. Finally I prayed, but I was still focusing mostly on the body instead of realizing more fully the allness of God. I was not "absent from the body" and "present with the Lord," as the Apostle Paul instructs us to be (II Cor. 5:8).

I am a photographer, and that night I had an assignment to do. Although I was tempted to call and postpone the job, I felt it was right to work that night. Ironically, the job involved photographing a hospital lobby. Upon entering the lobby I thought about what I had learned in Christian Science—that it is God who heals. As we understand God's allness and perfection and man as reflecting that perfection, we can begin to see practical healing in our lives.

I was there working for the next seven hours, using a lot of heavy equipment, setting up lights and camera, and moving furniture as necessary. As usual I enjoyed my work, for I always strive to express God's qualities of creativity, perfection, harmony, and joy as I work with clients and others.
