Jennifer's choice

Jennifer loved playing jump rope. She was getting so good, she didn't miss, even when her friends swung the rope as fast as they could. Her favorite place for jumping rope was at school during recess. Then all her friends would line up in the schoolyard and take turns jumping and swinging for each other. Everyone tried to jump as long as she could without making a mistake. Together they would count the jumps out loud, and sometimes Jennifer would almost get up to one hundred.

One day during recess it was Jennifer's turn again. She started jumping really fast, but when she landed, her ankle twisted and she fell down. She tried hard not to cry, and her friends ran to help her. When the recess bell rang a few minutes later, it hurt her a lot to walk back to her classroom.

In Jennifer's family it was natural to expect to see God's goodness expressed each day. As a matter of fact, the first thing in the morning her mom usually spent time reading the Bible and another book called Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. Mom liked to pray—to feel close to God and to listen for God's spiritual ideas. Often the family would say the Lord's Prayer together, and Jennifer especially liked the line "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever." Matt. 6:13.
