Even as a child I refused to believe that God, our Father, had put a curse on all mankind because of the wrongdoing of Adam and Eve. I also eventually lost faith in material medicines, as my illnesses kept recurring and were not healed. Homeopathic remedies and a vegetarian way of life proved no more satisfying.
Besides other distresses I became ill with anorexia nervosa and was told I should be admitted to the hospital for medical treatments. I refused to go into the hospital, however, and instead prayed. I prayed with all fervor for God to help me. Then one day my brother gave me a copy of The Christian Science Journal he had picked up from a distribution box on his way home from school. He said he passed by the distribution box every day but for the first time had felt impelled to investigate. I had been reading about and attending other religious denominations to find out what was missing from my own religion. My brother knew this, and because Christian Science was an unfamiliar Christian religion to me at that point, he thought the Journal would interest me.
I drank in the words of the Journal with so much thirst, and this thirst was quenched when the God it mentioned was most certainly not a God who had placed a curse on man. It mentioned a God of love, that God is Love. And the testimonies at the back of the periodical were proofs that God heals and blesses all and most certainly does not condemn man to suffering. I then referred to the list of Christian Science practitioners at the back of the Journal and called one nearest home for an appointment.
