Christian Science has brought me a deeper understanding of God as our Father-Mother, and I am truly grateful. It has shown me how to live in conformity with God's laws and taught me that obedience to these laws brings happiness and healing.

I was raised in Christian Science and attended a Christian Science Sunday School. After graduation from college, however, I became more or less indifferent to the teachings of Science. I attended the Sunday services and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings more out of habit than out of a sense of commitment. I remember being plagued during this time by various physical and mental complaints such as earaches, lack of confidence, and apathy. My job, which I had begun with much enthusiasm, became rather a burden; I felt my talents weren't being recognized. In short, I felt pretty miserable.

One evening as I was sitting in church waiting for a testimony meeting to begin, it suddenly dawned on me that I had a choice as to what to do. I could go on feeling miserable or I could turn my thoughts toward God, good. I knew intuitively that Christian Science had the answers. From that point on, I began to watch my thoughts. Mrs. Eddy's admonition "Watch your thoughts, and see whether they lead you to God and into harmony with His true followers," found in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany (p. 213), proved very helpful. I started identifying myself more closely with God as my Father-Mother.
