The key
My grief seemed inconsolable.
Again and again it pulled me down
into the depths of despair.
Memories haunted me
tauntingly tugging me back to the past
and there precariously I stayed
lingering longingly for what had been.
But God's law of progress demands
that we go up higher
accepting present good at hand
filling the empty corners of thought
with His love
that opens new horizons
yet unseen.
Freedom came
when I exchanged
grief for gratitude
for all the good
God had bestowed
in years gone by—
and still bestows.
Gratitude always
opens the door to healing
and I am grateful
I have found the key.
