During the years since my study of Christian Science began...
During the years since my study of Christian Science began in 1975, I have had many healings that I am deeply grateful for. There is one experience I especially cherish, however, because it showed me so clearly that a change in my own thought is what is needed to bring about healing.
Several years ago one of my teeth became very sensitive to heat and cold. Similar incidents in the past had resulted in traumatic visits to the dentist and loss of teeth. This time I decided to heal the condition through prayer in Christian Science. At first my prayer consisted primarily of holding to the truth that man is made in God's image and likeness and is not subject to any other power.
One morning while I was serving in a Christian Science Reading Room, there was a sharp pain in my tooth. Fear gripped me, and at first I wondered where I could find a dentist. But immediately followed the thought "God is right here, and He didn't make man to suffer. He created only good, and that doesn't include pain." Within a few moments the pain subsided.
