Some years ago I had two miscarriages
Some years ago I had two miscarriages. I also went through a divorce. After those trials I found myself living alone in a little apartment, far from family and friends, without money and without a job. Yet I had with me a copy of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. (I was a new student of Christian Science.)
A few months later I joined a branch church. Then, like Saint Paul, after his vision of the Christ on the road to Damascus (see Acts, chap. 9), I became aware of how much I needed to grow spiritually, to gain a better understanding of God and of myself as His beloved child. My circumstances improved. I was healed of many ailments, and, step by step, I learned to know God as an ever-present help, as divine Love.
Meanwhile I remarried, and from the very beginning of our marriage we both felt it would be a blessing to have a child. We waited over five years for that sweet occurrence. During those years I had the prayerful help of Christian Science practitioners at various times. I also prayed to silence the morbid fear of losing yet another child or of not having one at all. I especially wished to understand God's creation in all its perfection—complete, yet ever unfolding. In the chapter titled "Genesis" in Science and health we read (p. 519): "Thus the ideas of God in universal being are complete and forever expressed, for Science reveals infinity and the fatherhood and motherhood of Love."
