I Wore glasses for a number of years before I was introduced to Christian Science, and after I obtained my membership in the branch church I attended I was still using glasses. At first this seemed quite acceptable to me.

One day, however, I read this question in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 489): "How can man, reflecting God, be dependent on material means for knowing, hearing, seeing?" This question startled me, and I realized that since man is the idea, or reflection, of God, he does not require material assistance to see.

I immediately became aware that I needed to do more prayerful work in order to rid myself of the need for glasses. Thereupon I decided to study the Bible and Science and Health more carefully and thoroughly. The following two Bible verses made an indelible impression on my consciousness: "The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them" (Prov. 20:12) and "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it" (Eccl. 3:14). I began to understand that Spirit, God, the only cause and creator, made "the seeing eye"; therefore sight is spiritual and eternal. These spiritual facts were food for thought, and I pondered them a great deal.
