I'm grateful that I was raised by parents who approached life from a spiritual basis. This orientation has given me a more expansive sense of being and its possibilities.

As a child I was encouraged to turn to God as my Father-Mother, and I developed confidence in His guidance and care. Healings came naturally and often were instantaneous. I was healed of broken bones, warts, symptoms of strep throat, and was also protected from harm. I've had greater challenges in subsequent years, but great spiritual insights as well. As we read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care."

In college I was able to complete a four-year mathematics program in less than two years by recognizing that intelligence is divinely derived and not a personal possession. I strengthened my apprehension of Principle and its operation through working with the concept that "Principle is not to be found in fragmentary ideas" (ibid., p. 302). This allowed me to view mathematics in its totality, seeing how each aspect of it fits into a systematic scheme. After this recognition, studying became easier and my grades improved markedly. I've seen that the affinity I have for any subject is related to my spiritual sense of it.
