Cherishing those "millions of unprejudiced minds"
Spiritual sense isn't limited to members of a specific sect or denomination. All who seek the truth with open hearts can be receptive to the message of Christ's healing and saving love.
On the human scene there has always been opposition to spiritual truth. Thought steeped in materialism doesn't readily accept spiritual values and divine reality. Unless we are alert, we may begin to view the human picture simply as "them versus us"—Christian Scientists standing alone against a hateful, noncomprehending world.
Yet there are many who, while not fully familiar with the letter of Christian Science, are sufficiently aware of its spirit and its healing works to respect it. To be sure, not all who gain such a respect for Christian Science will become full-time students or practitioners of it! But this doesn't make their contribution insignificant. On the contrary, what they share of Christian Science can be of great importance. They may sincerely argue its case in some quarters when necessary. And in certain situations they may even recommend the study of Christian Science to others when healing is needed.
Such as these must have been included in the thoughts of Mrs. Eddy when she wrote, "Millions of unprejudiced minds— simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert —are waiting and watching for rest and drink." And Mrs. Eddy urged an active response: "Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." Science and Health, p. 570. It is our privilege to cherish and appreciate all those who are "waiting and watching" as well as those people of Christly motives who actually offer the healing truth of Christian Science even though they may not themselves be church members.
