When I was about twelve years old our family was invited for an afternoon's swim at an ocean beach. We were unaware of an undertow in that area. I wandered off playing in the surf, and suddenly a huge wave pulled me down and out to sea. Though I fought for control, I was helpless against the force of the undertow.

Suddenly I stopped fighting and remembered what we had learned in a Christian Science Sunday School: "God is Spirit." As I held on to the recognition of God's great might, I was washed ashore. When my mother came running up to me, she found me sitting in shallow water. I could scarcely wait to tell her of this wonderful proof of God's care, and we both rejoiced over it. At the same time at the other end of the beach a crowd had gathered around a man who was being revived from the effects of the undertow by a rescue team.

Another experience occurred years later when my husband was attending officers' training school. I had been in bed, unable to move my head without extreme pain. On Saturday, his day off, my husband was reading to me from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Suddenly I felt so strongly the love of God, divine Love. I knew I was healed. The next day I was able to attend church. The following day I was entirely free.
