Interruptions—distractions or steppingstones?

Sometimes our day seems filled with distractions. A traffic jam, a broken water pipe, a misplaced house key, may force us to abandon the best-laid plans. If our schedule has been derailed, however, does it necessarily mean that lost time will equal lost opportunity?

Once Christ Jesus was asked by a man named Jairus to come and heal his dying daughter. See Mark 5:22–42 . On their way to Jairus's house, a throng of people crowded the Master. They had heard that this man healed people who were blind, lame, deaf, and those afflicted with other maladies as well. They must have wanted to see the man who could do such marvelous things.

When Jesus met the crowd, did he rush heedlessly through it in order to get quickly to Jairus's daughter? No. He responded to a woman whom he healed of "an issue of blood" that she had suffered from for twelve years. He took the time to meet her need.
