To progress: listen and go forward

To go forward, we sometimes have to stop pushing ahead and listen. Then God shows us the next step to take.

Not long after I had learned to drive our car, a heavy snow fell, covering our driveway. Anxiously I started to back out of the garage, but one rear wheel slipped off the pavement. The wheel spun, and the car refused to move as I tried to back into the proper position. It was too late to take the public bus, and I had to get to work on time.

I took a moment to pray. Then I thought to try to move the car forward. As a novice driver, I was greatly surprised when the car moved smoothly and easily onto the driveway. I was then able to back straight to the street.

How easily the car had moved forward, and how stubbornly it had refused to go backward until I reversed direction! So it is in some of our human experiences. Sometimes we plan and struggle to succeed and finally reach a stage where progress seems impossible. Only as we reverse our steps, ask for divine guidance, and faithfully go forward with new inspiration can we reach our goal.
