For a period of years I was troubled with a digestive difficulty
For a period of years I was troubled with a digestive difficulty. Often after eating I would become violently ill and be in pain up to two hours. Then I often would be very weak and need to be in bed for at least one day. Through prayer I would get temporary relief. I did not, however, gain the complete freedom I knew was available to me; the attacks continued.
People told me that I suffered from gallbladder attacks and that I should seek medical care or I could die. During all this time I regularly prayed and studied Christian Science, but I put off facing the problem head-on and resolving it. However, I knew this statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy to be true of Christian Science (p. 558): "When you look it fairly in the face, you can heal by its means, and it has for you a light above the sun, for God 'is the light thereof.'"
One night after going out to dinner with my family, I became so ill and the pain so severe that I thought I could not bear it. I turned repeatedly to "the scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of Science and Health. Something that had been attached to me internally became dislodged and removed itself. Then I was able to get into bed and rest.
