One day our son slipped while engaging in gymnastics at school. Because he had hurt his arm, he was taken immediately to a hospital. When the hospital staff called us, they had already put the arm in a plaster cast. The doctor in attendance showed me the X-ray they had taken of the break. He then told me that the arm should be operated on and that the following day I should bring our son back for the necessary preparations.

This entire plan had evolved without our knowledge. The first thing our son had requested was that they advise his parents, which they finally did, but not until after they had already made the plaster cast.

As students of Christian Science, our first step was to turn to God in prayer. We then talked with a Christian Science practitioner, who prayed with us. He encouraged us to remain calm and to put into practice our understanding of Science. We recognized that the unity which exists between God and His idea, man, remains constant. Nothing can harm the perfection of God's man.
