One Sunday over a year ago two fellow church members kindly gave me a lift home after an inspiring evening service at our branch church. One went with me to see some plants at the bottom of the garden, while her husband waited for her in the car at the entrance.

During our return, as we were talking, I caught my foot on an overhanging step and fell backwards down another step, hitting my head severely on the concrete flag below.

The first thing I thought and said was, "It's never happened." Though this might sound strange to one unacquainted with Christian Science, I knew from the study of this Science that it was a spiritually scientific fact. According to the first chapter of Genesis (1:27), "God created man in his own image." Also Jesus says in John's Gospel (4:24): "God is a Spirit." So man must be God's spiritual image, or reflection. Therefore in my true, original selfhood as His child, I could not fall from His loving care. Christ Jesus' healing work repudiated the evidence of the material senses, and as a follower of his teachings, I knew that I must as well. Again the thought came so clearly, "It's never happened."
