It has been so many years since my first published testimony that I cannot allow another moment to go by without expressing my gratitude for the countless blessings we have had in our family.

Several years ago our son was in Army training at a base some distance from home. On what was to be his graduation day, I flew up in the early morning to attend the service. Upon my arrival I telephoned to ask my son where his graduation exercises were to be held. I was not put in touch with him but was advised that he was in the contagious ward at the base hospital, suffering with spinal meningitis. I was told that under no condition could I see him, much less talk with him. He was gravely ill.

For a moment I was in a state of shock, as we had been hearing on the news of soldiers' dying with this disease. I became very upset. Then, with a much calmer voice, I asked whether I might speak to someone in authority.
