When I was a young mother with two preschool children, I lost a whole year of activity because of a physical disability. Some kind friends brought me Christian Science literature, and later one of them loaned me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After I completed reading the book, I found that I was well and again able to accept my family responsibilities. I was very grateful.

One morning about a year later, our children woke feeling very ill. They both had a rash. I knew little about the practice of Christian Science, but as soon as my husband returned home from his work, I walked a few blocks to the home of the friend who had loaned me the copy of Science and Health. She was not there, but on the way back I stopped at the home of an older woman who I knew was a Christian Scientist. I told her about the children. She said that there was an epidemic of measles in our small town and that the law required a report. She agreed to pray for our children. I was very relieved, and I went home feeling satisfied that all was well. I reported the disease to the health officials, and a man came and put up a quarantine sign.

We all slept peacefully that night, and early in the morning the two youngsters hopped out of bed and began chasing each other all over the house. You would never have known there had been anything wrong. I called the woman who had prayed for them and thanked her. The health officials were notified, and the quarantine was lifted from our house.
