Each Lesson-Sermon published in the Christian Science Quarterly—Bible Lessons is designed to be complete in itself. Its Bible references (King James version) are corroborated and explained by passages from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. They found a plain in the land of Shinar (Gen. 11:2)

That is, the Tigris-Euphrates valley in what was known in ancient times as Babylonia. Babel, the name of the city and tower built here, is the Hebrew form of Babylon—suggestively similar to the Hebrew verb balal, to mix or confuse.
