Photo flash
Friend, you flash a photo of yourself
As a five-year-old
And we chuckle at the changes.
But a flash of truth illuminates
A face beneath the photo,
Bearing features of the child
I often see in you today:
That straight-ahead look of the Truth-impelled;
The radiancy of Spirit;
The glint of Mind;
The elegant harmony of perfection.
But I know
That even now this beautiful
Human view that holds so much
And seems so clear to me
Is like a fuzzy snapshot,
Compared to the better original
God has made—
That I have yet to fully see.
And even the great affection I feel
Is just a pallid print
Of Love divine,
Which knows and holds its own—
The real.
Human pictures change and fade,
But the child,
Never.
