I was born in Istanbul, Turkey, and as an adult I immigrated to the United States. At a time when I was living in New York City I suffered with a severe condition of asthma. I went to the doctor twice a week and took two kinds of medication four times a day.
Feeling I couldn't go on this way and seeking some kind of change, I moved to Los Angeles in 1976. I was going to look for a new doctor there because my medication was almost used up. (I had brought $200 worth from New York.) I was unhappy over the whole situation.
