Years ago, as a young mother with two small boys, I had many opportunities to demonstrate God's gentle care for His children. Daily study of the Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly) and wholehearted turning to God in prayer helped solve many problems and gave us a sense of God's all-encompassing love.

One Saturday morning when our boys were small, they were sitting on the floor with two other small neighborhood children watching television. After about an hour of cartoons the thought came to me that they had seen enough television and should go outside to play. We turned the television off and went outside. A few minutes later we heard a loud bang coming from the house.

I ran in to see what had happened and couldn't believe my eyes! The television picture tube had exploded! Thousands of splinters of glass were scattered clear across the room and on the floor where the boys and their friends had been sitting moments before. It was obvious that the force of the explosion had been tremendous. I felt at once that I had responded to divine direction in sending the children outside to play, and I immediately thanked God for His loving protection.
