"Small beginnings" ... large laws

I have been healed through Christian Science of various painful and frightening conditions—including a recurring stomach disorder, a sharp fall on my spine onto concrete decking, a blow on the head from a baseball traveling close to eighty miles per hour—but some of the most lasting lessons have emerged from apparently insignificant experiences.

For example, a few years ago unexpected rain canceled a once-a-year activity that I look forward to with great joy. I attempted to comfort myself with a series of humanly reasonable arguments. I thought, "Well there's nothing you can do about that rain. ... What's done is done. ... Forget it! ... You're an adult; things like this shouldn't get to you."

After about an hour of such reasoning, I still felt disappointed. I knew it was time to abandon human reasoning and to pray—to reason spiritually, that is, to allow God to govern my thoughts.
