Divine Love comforts, reassures, and heals

Can the understanding of God's reassuring love inspire and heal us? Yes. Even though God's love may be something we can't physically see, it can be felt. When our thinking is uplifted and inspired by a holy sense of God's universal and all-embracing love, we can feel it through our whole being.

Let me illustrate. A Christian Science practitioner went to see a woman who needed help. They talked about God's love and tender care for His children. They both turned to the Bible to see how Christ Jesus, inspired by selfless divine Love, reassured people and healed them. As an untouchable leper approached Jesus, the Master was not repulsed by the man's condition. He loved him. According to Mark, the leper sought Jesus' help, saying, "If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." The account continues, "And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed." Mark 1:40–42. The leper must have felt deeply reassured by the love Jesus expressed.

The woman whom the practitioner was visiting had been anxious about a piano performance she and her partner were preparing to give. She also mentioned a swollen sore spot on her back, which had been there for months. While they talked about God's love and man's complete safety in His infinite care, the woman's fear regarding these two problems quickly disappeared. Both she and the practitioner realized that God's love for man, His image and likeness, forever excludes pain, disease, discord, and fear. The allness of divine Love eliminates the belief that there is error of any kind to touch God's children.
