God's control

Today we frequently hear the expression "out of control." Perhaps one person feels his thinking is out of control—heedless, drifting, undisciplined. Another may feel his daily experience is so busy and complicated that it is beyond control. Others may feel out of control of their finances, their family or social situations, their appetites. Some even complain that the mail accumulating on their desks is out of control!

How do the teachings of Christian Science help us gain a right concept of control? Certainly Jesus proved complete dominion in his experience—control over sin, disease, and death; over weather and gravity; over time and space. Other great Bible characters demonstrated unprecedented control over matter as they overcame limitation and tremendous obstacles. How did they do this, and how can we follow their examples?

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions' den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless." Science and Health, p. 514. Because God, divine Love, creates everything real, Love necessarily holds control over all its creation. How, then, do we align our thinking and experience, as did Daniel and Paul, with Love's control and see marvelous healing results as they did?
