Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

It is the aim of all true Christians to follow the commands of Christ Jesus. He said, "Go ye ... and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Matt. 28:19. To give one's allegiance to this command involves an ever-growing understanding of the terms "Father," "Son," and "Holy Ghost," through which Jesus said teaching and baptism are effected.

We can begin by looking again at the specific explanations he gives in his own words. The Master called God one and said that He is Spirit and good—our Father as well as his Father. Jesus acknowledged that he was "Christ, the Son of the living God"; Matt. 16:16. and he said, "I and my Father are one." John 10:30. Of the Holy Ghost, Jesus prophesied, "The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26.

Mrs. Eddy, who discovered the Christ Science, closely followed Jesus' teaching and practice. Instead of merely accepting the doctrines that had sprung up concerning his lifework, she studied the Scriptures thoroughly, spiritually discerned his own explanation and application, and proved what she learned in healing. The dependable healing effect of the laws she demonstrated convinced Mrs. Eddy that divine Science is the promised Comforter.
