Christ comes today

Christ comes! What momentous promise this fact has for each of us—particularly for anyone yearning for health, harmony, peace of mind, freedom from sin. To all in need, Christian Science reveals the ever-present coming of Christ, seen in the revitalizing of our lives and in proofs of Christianity's healing power. Christ is indeed the answer to all our needs. Awakening to Christ's presence brings healing and harmony to human experience. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy tells us: "Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God." Science and Health, p. 473. And she defines "Christ" in this way: "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." Ibid., p. 583. Clearly, the Christ heals now as it did when Jesus so fully exemplified God's power that his disciple Peter identified him thus: "Thou art the Christ." Mark 8:29.

Christ Jesus knew the importance of his own God-given mission as the Messiah, the Saviour. He said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10. Christian Science, coming today in complete agreement with Jesus' teachings, reveals that the Christ is still here with us to save, regenerate, and heal. When we, through earnest humble prayer, understand in a degree the ever-presence of Christ as Immanuel, or "God with us," we experience exalting spiritual insights that bring healing.

Several years ago I had just such a profound experience. During the course of just one year several friends developed a certain disease and shortly thereafter passed on. Each had had extensive medical treatment but hadn't been healed. I was deeply troubled by their loss and increasingly fearful of the disease. Then I began to experience pain in one area of my body, and dread seemed to envelop me. As I tried to combat the fear and pain through my own prayer, I did have times when things were under control and I was calm and hopeful. But the fear wasn't totally rooted out.
