Our love and mankind's future

This editorial begins on a historic morning for Christian Scientists—the morning of December 8, 1984—the day of the first satellite videoconference for Christian Scientists all over the world. But now as you are reading this editorial, it is just about time for the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

What do these two vital meetings, held six months apart, have in common? Isn't it the spirit of love and prayer and unity that links together all those who cherish Christian Science and its holy purpose to reveal the answers mankind is seeking? Whether Christian Scientists come together "face to face," as it were, by means of satellite television, or whether that coming together is in the united prayers of all those around the world who are not at the Annual Meeting this year, the common bond is gratitude for the better understanding of God and man that Christian Science has brought.

Perhaps there is no greater desire in the hearts of Christian Scientists than to share with all humanity the Christianity and Science that have brought them so much joy. And as they help others find physical healing and moral freedom, students of this Science also have a desire to tell others of the truth they've found, "I've discovered spiritual reality! I've found God—found that He is wholly good, that material existence with all its tragedies is not the reality of being. God, Spirit, is! He includes all reality within His own being, and I'm so much more than I seem to be. I'm really His spiritual offspring, His beloved idea, man! And you are too!"
