A number of years ago I was suffering from a condition that had been diagnosed as rheumatic arthritis. I was twelve years old at the time. After I had undergone two years of intense suffering and had been under constant medical treatment, doctors, including a specialist, informed my parents that ossification of the joints had set in. The doctors stated that nothing known to the medical profession could be done to reverse this process.

Stricken with anxiety and a sense of hopelessness, my mother recalled that two years earlier, soon after I had become bedridden, a dear friend had told her of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. The friend was a student of Science. My mother had thanked this friend for her concern but said that she did not think more could be done for me than was already being done. I was receiving the best medical treatment and the prayers of the minister of the church we then attended.

Now that my case had been given up by the doctors, my mother got in touch with her friend and told her she was ready to learn about Christian Science. This dear friend came right over, bringing along a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and issues of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel. She explained to us a little about the teachings of Science. And she also told us of Christian Science practitioners and their healing work, pointing out the listings in the Journal for practitioners and branch Churches of Christ, Scientist and Christian Science societies.
