"The warfare with one's self is grand"*

For this grand warfare let me go prepared—
Never asleep, and never off my guard.
Let me find strength in joy, and hope that's shared
With those who find the battle fierce and hard.
If I am ever tempted to desert,
Let me remember that this war is grand
And that no matter what the foe assert,
The victory is always in Truth's hand.
Let me find peace while on the battlefield,
Even though I may not stop to rest;
May faith and patience be my sturdy shield
Protecting all within me that is best.
And last: Let me not lose the vision of
God's all-encircling, deep and changeless love.
