I am very grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School, which I attended from the time I was twelve years old. The truths I learned there were put into practice while I was growing up, and I experienced many fine healings. As I went along, however, I realized that further spiritual growth was a genuine need in order that my understanding of this teaching might be grounded on a firmer foundation.

During my university years I was confronted with a serious problem. One night I woke suddenly, and for no apparent reason panic overwhelmed me; my whole body trembled. I had the feeling that I would lose consciousness the next moment, but nevertheless I succeeded in telephoning a Christian Science practitioner. She at once supported me through prayer, and the frightening condition disappeared within an hour. Although I didn't feel completely free by the following morning, I was able to take an important oral exam at the university with a feeling of joy and with excellent results.

Soon the unpleasant experience was forgotten, until the same feeling of panic came over me some weeks later and was repeated each night for the next few days. The symptoms that accompanied these attacks were deeply disturbing, and for weeks there seemed to be hardly a moment of relief. But the deep spirituality and the Christian love expressed by the practitioner sustained me during that time.
