I have had many blessings as a result of spiritual enlightenment...

I have had many blessings as a result of spiritual enlightenment gained through the study of Christian Science. Emotional stress has been calmed and human relationships have been harmonized. Also, divine protection has been evident, and I have had an abundance of everything I need. I credit the demonstration of God's law as taught in Christian Science for this.

When there has been a need for physical healing, usually this need has been met relatively quickly, through my own prayers or with the help of a Christian Science practitioner. Because of the physical freedom I had generally known, it was a surprise to me when symptoms of a rash appeared on my body and did not disappear even after about two weeks of prayer.

I learned many lessons in working out this situation. One of the early lessons was not to be tempted, when faced with a physical discord, to establish a cause or reason for the discord. In my case I was tempted to think that because I had been asked to participate in a meeting that was of importance to me, this discord had come to obstruct my participation and even to obstruct my attendance at the meeting. I called a practitioner, explained my concern, and asked for support through prayer. The time for the meeting came, and I attended and participated. For this I was grateful. Still the physical condition did not yield. In fact, it seemed to become more aggressive.

During the time that I was working this out, I had the prayerful assistance of several practitioners upon whom I called at different times. This help was given so patiently, lovingly, and steadfastly that I will always be inspired by it. And I know that the prayers of each of these faithful ones made a definite contribution to the final healing.

I can honestly say that I never had any doubt that the practice of Christian Science would bring healing. I knew no discouragement, but at times I was tempted to feel bewildered at my apparent lack of receptivity to the spiritual truths that heal. Mrs. Eddy states (Science and Health, p. 83), "Nothing is more antagonistic to Christian Science than a blind belief without understanding, for such a belief hides Truth and builds on error." I prayed earnestly for a deepening of spiritual understanding. In Miscellaneous Writings Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 359), "To ask wisdom of God, is the beginning of wisdom." I constantly turned to God to seek the needed wisdom. The fruits of this prayer and effort were manifest in a deeper trust, a more humble willingness to see God's (not my) plan unfold, and a more conscious sense of good.

I'm not sure when the final physical healing came. The symptoms simply disappeared and I was free. Yet the healing effects have been more than just the disappearance of an ugly, uncomfortable bodily condition. I am certainly grateful for this Christian Science demonstration of God's law in action. At the same time I have developed a deeper sense of love for Science, not just for what it has done for me, but for what it is. More than ever I am aware that Christian Science is a way of life, the means of bringing salvation into our experience now.
