Update on current court cases

There is growing evidence that Christian Scientists, on a very broad scale, are giving the lie to the old charge that they shy away from dealing forthrightly with human problems. The fact is that they are awake and praying together about the challenges facing the Christian Science movement more than ever before. (In fact, some of the beginning fruits of this awakening will be shared in such future issues of our periodicals as the January 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal.)

One of the signs of this awakening is the openness—even the eagerness—of church members to keep informed. Far from finding information about current challenges depressing, they have found the demand to confront and pray about them rousing and liberating. In this spirit, readers of the Sentinel will want to know the current status of some issues discussed in earlier communications from the Committee on Publication.

Among these are court cases involving Christian Science care for children, now in various stages of the judicial process. These include three prosecutions of Christian Scientist parents in the state of California, as well as a lawsuit in Michigan brought against The Mother Church and two practitioners by two former members in connection with the passing of their son.
