Prayer's divine energy

While looking up a dictionary definition of energy, I came across a quotation that was used to illustrate an unusual definition of the word. To me there is an certain poignancy in the statement attributed to a clergyman in the eighteenth century: "Beg the blessed Jesus to give an energy to your imperfect prayers."A New English Dictionary on Historical Principle (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1897), Vol. III, Part 2 .

More than one hundred years later, a spiritual discovery took place that would reveal the true nature of the divine power which makes perfect and brings healings efficacy to prayer. The one who made this discovery, Mrs. Eddy, had herself been healed by turning to God for help, but she wanted to understand more fully how the healing had occurred. So she set to work find an answer. As she prayed, and studied the Scriptures, she felt God leading her to see that spiritual law, not personal energy, was what Christ Jesus knew and practiced in his great healing works. One result of her God-directed efforts appeared when she gave to the world the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

When faithfully studied and practiced, Christian Science shows us how to rely on the divine law and the energy of Spirit in our prayers. And those prayers heal!
