FOR CHILDREN
God's comfort all around
Emily climbed up the stairs to give her baby sister a bedtime kiss. So did her brother. Their older sister was waiting for them with the baby at the top of the stairs. This was a crowded place to line up for giving little sister a kiss. Somehow Emily lost her balance and tumbled down all sixteen wooden stairs.
Dad had been folding the wash when he heard Emily begin to fall. He came fast to see what was happening. There was Emily, upside down and sideways at the bottom of the stairs, doing a lot of crying. Dad zipped down the stairs and picked Emily up in his arms.
First he said, "Remember, God is here." Dad knew this was true, and he had read in the book of Psalms that morning that God comforts us on every side. See Ps. 71:21. God's comfort is all around. This is what Dad was thinking about as he went to the stairs, and he kept thinking about God's comfort while he spoke with Emily.
