Christian Science has changed my life greatly,...

Christian Science has changed my life greatly, and I would like to share one of my most cherished healings in hopes that it will comfort and encourage others.

For many years my daughter and I fought with each other violently. It seemed as though raising a child brought out the worst in me. I used to think that it was a shame that we couldn't divorce our children. In difficult times, however, often either she or I would call a Christian Science practitioner for help, and the situation would be calmed.

Many times our arguments would put me in tears, and this only seemed to anger my daughter. This was puzzling to me until one day I came across this statement in Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 288): "The selfish role of a martyr is the shift of a dishonest mind, nothing short of self-seeking; and real suffering would stop the farce." I could relate to someone's getting angry at that type of mentality, and I cried less frequently after that. Another time when I was in the pit of misery, the question came to mind, "Do you believe that God is in control of your lot in life?" "Why, yes," I thought. "Well, then, you couldn't be sad. You must really be happy," came the reply. Instantly I was free, happy, and about my chores.
