Two years ago, over the Thanksgiving holidays, my husband and I drove to Colorado. Our two children were with us, and we were to attend a family reunion and to enjoy some skiing. While he was out on the slopes skiing with his dad, our seven-year-old son fell and injured his ankle. He was in great pain and unable to walk, so we carried him to the cabin where we were staying and made him as comfortable as possible.

That night the child was experiencing pain and had a fever. My mother and I are both new students of Christian Science, and we prayed concerning my son. Because we felt in need of help, we called a Christian Science practitioner in my hometown, who lovingly agreed to pray for the child. The practitioner assured us that the boy was safe and in God's care, and she referred us to the comforting statements regarding accidents on page 424 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

The next morning we decided to load the car and start for home. The practitioner agreed to continue praying while we made this long journey. My husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, felt we should stop at the nearest town and have our son's ankle X-rayed for broken bones.
