Before I began studying Christian Science...
Before I began studying Christian Science, I was often sick—in particular, I suffered from a chronic allergy, colds, and sinusitis. When my three children were small, I was bedridden for three months with bronchitis and pneumonia. Although family members and hired aides were very helpful and kind in taking care of the children and our home, I frequently felt depressed and full of self-pity.
I prayed often during this time, asking God to show me how to know Him better. After coming home from a hospital stay of five days, I read books on spiritual healing and attended healing services in my Protestant church. However, although these activities were spiritually uplifting, I continued having bronchial and allergy problems. My physician then began giving me allergy shots each week and large doses of vitamins.
Several years after this, while my family and I were on vacation, we drove past a beautiful Church of Christ, Scientist, that had a connecting public Reading Room. I asked my husband to stop the car so I could go in to inquire about Christian Science, since I thought it had something to do with spiritual healing.
