The faithful witness and God's law

In the practice of Christian Science, the concepts of "witness," "evidence," "plea," and "law" translate into very important elements of any healing. In fact, at one place in the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy chose to use the setting of a court of law as an allegory to illustrate mental healing. See Science and Health, pp. 430–442 .

Studying the Bible, together with the textbook as key to it, we cannot help feeling the strong sense of God as Principle—the source of divine law. And in demonstrating the truths revealed in the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's works, we cannot fail to see that our experience is determined by our understanding of this law. Let's examine how this works.

We learn in Christian Science that our real selfhood as the child of God bears witness only to that which is divinely true; and this true witnessing is reflected in the human scene when the accusations of material sense and its attendant condemnation are refuted and silenced. Think how quickly we rise to our own defense when we are falsely blamed by a family member of moving an item from its regular place, or when someone at work wrongly accuses us of failing to do something we should have done. Our innocence becomes perfectly clear when the item is found, or when others see that we have in fact done our job. The false witnessing was simply a misconception.
