I first heard of Christian Science some years ago, while listening to the radio program "The Truth That Heals." At the time a family member was in need, and I was searching for something to help him.

Shortly after that a friend of my mother's visited us. When I happened to mention the radio program, the friend said that she was a Christian Scientist. This dear woman began sending me copies of the Sentinel, and she advised me to read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which I did. The family member mentioned earlier showed no interest in Christian Science. But I was helped greatly by it.

A doctor had said that I would have to have an operation if the treatment he was giving me did not correct the severe hemorrhaging from which I had been suffering for several months. I did not know then that Christian Scientists rely on God alone for healing through prayer. However, because of certain circumstances I stopped taking the medication the doctor had prescribed for me. Just through my reading the wonderful book Science and Health, the hemorrhaging ceased. I was perfectly well, and I felt like the woman in the Bible who had touched the hem of Christ Jesus' garment and was made whole (see Matt. 9:20–22).
