For several years I searched for answers to my life problems in psychology, philosophy, eastern religions, and certain self-help methods. Despite my low opinion of Christianity, I began to feel that God had the answers for me that I could not find elsewhere. I earnestly prayed to God to show me the way.

Soon I visited a Christian Science Reading Room for the first time. The librarian introduced me to Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Though I did not understand much of this book, I felt the touch of the Christ, Truth. A week later I went to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a nearby branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I was overflowing with gratitude, and I shared it with those present.

Learning about Christian Science was my first answer to prayer. And I was so eager to learn more about relying on God through prayer that I asked a Christian Science practitioner to tell me more. She lovingly agreed and invited me to her office. To further help me, she suggested I study the chapter titled "Prayer" in Science and Health, together with these verses in Proverbs (3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Soon I had an opportunity to put into practice the spiritual truths I had learned so far.
