Prayer is the expression of an existing relationship with God, and at the same time it creates a new dimension of fellowship among human beings. A person who expresses gratitude and addresses petitions to the almighty God can only do so believing that God is there, alive and powerful, and ready to hear and to help. Thus prayer becomes a natural expression of a relationship based on trust and faith.
At the same time prayer opens our minds to the needs of others. Real prayer cannot possibly centre solely on God and our own concerns. God has many children, and by talking with him we become aware of the situations in which others live too. We learn of their needs and hopes and we see ourselves in a wider fellowship.
