Don't give up—go up!

Christian Science healings are often instantaneous. Instantaneous healing can and should always be expected; but there is no need to succumb to discouragement and give up if a healing is not accomplished quickly. The need may be to give up discouragement and go up in the understanding of man's relationship to God, his changeless perfection, and the inevitability of Christian Science healing.

In Christian Science we seek to discover the truth about the situation that seems to need healing. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy explains, "Science reveals the possibility of achieving all good, and sets mortals at work to discover what God has already done...." Science and Health, p. 260. God has already made man spiritual and perfect—in His own likeness. Mrs. Eddy also asks this pertinent question: "Do we expect to change perfection?" Ibid., p. 2.

This question was a big help to me when I was faced with a physical problem that made me quite fearful. When I read this question in Science and Health, I realized I had been trying desperately to "change" something rather than to recognize the changeless perfection that was eternally mine as God's reflection. Shortly thereafter my healing was complete.
