At one point I found it difficult to eat anything, and I soon lost weight. I also noticed a lump in my body, and there was internal bleeding. But I was firm in my resolve to apply the truths of spiritual being and work this problem out in Christian Science.

As I prayed and studied this teaching, lovely statements from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy came flooding in. The one I thought about the most was from page 539 of Science and Health: "God could never impart an element of evil, and man possesses nothing which he has not derived from God." Also meaningful was this verse from the Bible (John 3:27): "A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven."

I continued to pray and study every possible moment, and I was able, in spite of pain, to continue my household and church duties. Yet I recognized that I needed to know more about man's relationship to God as His likeness; and to cherish the fact that in reality we are that man, belonging to our heavenly Father every moment. Our true spiritual being emanates from Him, and it is entirely harmonious and perfect, expressing His boundless good.
