Staying in "the only"
Many people are familiar with the words that open the King James Version of the Bible: "In the beginning God...." Gen. 1:1. This passage opens the spiritual account of creation and depicts a universe filled with good. All is at peace, and man is created in the divine likeness and given dominion over the whole earth and its creatures.
Perhaps not so familiar is the following interpretation of the above Biblical phrase: "The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only,—that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe." Science and Health, p. 502.
These lines in the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, open a new view of existence. They reveal harmony as an ever-present fact, not subject to any antagonistic power or condition. They challenge the human theories which insist that perfect harmony is a desirable but unattainable state for man.
